Asco Motors Fiji Technician reigns supreme at Toyota Tsusho South Pacific Holdings Group Technicians Skills Contest

Asco Motors Technician Rajnil Chandra confirmed his position in history, by winning the 2011 Toyota Tsusho South Pacific Holdings (TTSPH) Group Technicians Skills Contest.

It was a proud moment for Fiji, when it was announced local candidate and Lautoka based Toyota technician Rajnil Chandra took out top honours at the TTSPH Group Technicians Skills Contest also hosted by Fiji recently. Chandra who’s been with the company for almost five years now was surprised but very excited with the win. However, this is not the first time Chandra has received such accolades. In 2006, prior to joining Asco Motors, Chandra graduated as the Best Apprentice of the Year from the then Training Productivity Authority of Fiji.

An automotive engineer by profession, Chandra specializes in the area of automotive mechanical, servicing, air conditioning and electronics.

Chandra attributed his win to a few people who were instrumental in his preparations, “Field Technical Officer, Rani Fesaitu helped me a lot in my preparations, along with National Service Manager Sanjeet Kumar. Also training department assisted me as well”. Questioned on how he prepared for this year’s TTSPH Group Technician Skills Contest, he said “even though I preparing myself from last year, more recently I was doing diagnosis on a daily basis, for about a week leading up to the contest, and basically just following procedures, checking and referencing with the manuals along the way”.

All the preparations paid off in the end, after he was announced this year’s TTSPH Group Technicians champion. Chandra says “it’s a great feeling to win! For the last few years, I have been coming in second in Fiji Skills Contest but that did not deter me for pursuing this dream”.  Chandra was also inspired to win by his 6-week old daughter and he hopes this win will also help her pursue her goals in life.

On asked what his advice was to fellow technicians in the group wanting to follow in his steps, Chandra said “simply, just follow procedures daily and don’t lose sight of your goals”.

It was icing on the cake for host country Fiji, as this was the first year the contest was held in Fiji. Management and staff of Asco Motors Fiji were delighted hosts to the participants of this year’s TTSPH Group Technicians Skills Contest.
