Asco Motors hand over the first vehicles of the Fiji Government Lease
Asco Motors yesterday handed over to the Fiji government the first eight of the 132 vehicles as per the leasing agreement between the Asco Motors and the government of Fiji which was financed by the Bank of the South Pacific (BSP).
Acting Permanent Secretary for Finance Mr David Kolitagane, who received the vehicles on behalf of the Fiji government said “the vehicles would be spread across various ministries. Some ministries will get it in this lot and others will receive it in the next lot, in September”. Government ministries that received their new vehicles included the Ministry of Finance, Health, Lands and Mineral Resources, Fisheries and Forestry along with the Judicial Department.
Asco Motors Chief Executive Officer Abdul Hafiz said “they were happy to be able to start the supply of the new vehicles for government, with more vehicles to be handed over in the course of the year”. Adding that, “factories in Japan are now back to operating in full capacity after the natural disasters earlier this year which affected the supply components causing a backlog in production, but they are getting back on track now and subsequently, we expect more vehicles in September and December this year”.
BSP Asset Finance Manager Mitesh Kumar said “BSP was pleased with this joint
venture and looked forward to working
with the government in future”.
Under the new leasing agreement, Asco Motors will provide back-up service for all vehicles ensuring that the vehicles are well maintained for the four year lease period. At the end of the fourth year, the general public would be able to purchase these quality used vehicles.
